- How the planning service works

Planning is a core capability at Apache and is a feature of all the services we provide, whether directly or as a supporting service. We help you plan and implement all cloud related initiatives across all stages of the programme, project, and procurement lifecycles. From high level strategic roadmaps, to detailed day-by-day test and acceptance planning, we have the expertise to apply the right level of planning for the given scenario. We choose the methodologies and tools to suite your circumstances, including Agile, SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, Traditional Waterfall, and Hybrid, and we do this on your ICT or on our own secure ICT.
We research different options, and work with you to understand the implications of choosing different options and the relative merits of each. We look at performance, cost, time and risk, and we model scenarios to help you make decisions and to provide evidence for your business case approvals process. We are independent and can provide an objective and impartial perspective on which options are best for you. We’ll keep you and your stakeholders engaged all along the way, and ensure you participate in the planning process so that you understand it and have confidence in it. - Planning service works with specific services

- We are an independent technical consultancy and so are not partnered or aligned with any vendors. We are therefore able to develop tailored and bespoke training to meet your needs. This approach can be applied to all our G Cloud services meaning we not only can develop training for any software and hosting services, but we can also develop training and knowledge transfer for the consultancy services we provide, if this is what you want. This means we can help upskill and develop your people to continue our work once we leave so that you do not become dependent on us.

Setup and migration

- How the setup or migration service works
-
We help you setup, migrate to or between cloud services by providing a risk-based migration planning service. This involves taking time to understand your current situation, and your requirements for and desired target situation, and assessing the risks associated with this. Based on this assessment, we develop robust plans that either avoid or minimise these risks to give you piece of mind during your migration and we document all of this in easy to understand migration plans.
When assessing your current and ‘to-be’ setup, we look at your user needs, your business processes, your existing applications, data and information, and your technology stack. We also look at your organisations strategies and policies, and security requirements. Based on this assessment, we can prioritise the migration to deliver the biggest business benefits first, whilst minimising risk. - Setup or migration service is for specific cloud services

We understand the importance of a well-defined and thought through Quality Management System (QMS) and the benefit this can bring to your operations. We take a pragmatic and risk-based view to developing a QMS to ensure it is adopted by users, delivers maximum benefit to your organisation, and avoids introducing inefficiencies. We follow the principles of ISO9001:2015 and can help you prepare for audit.
As part of the QMS, we can help you design and implement quality measures and performance testing metrics across the business scope. We can help gather data and analyse this data to assess the performance of the QMS and your business processes. We can review and audit documentation and evidence to provide independent and unbiased Quality Assurance according to your needs.
Our own QMS is accredited to ISO9001:2015 for the scope of services provided through G Cloud and we are committed to always delivering the highest quality standards. We seek regular feedback from you (at least quarterly) to ensure we are meeting and exceeding our commitments to you to help you deliver your programmes successfully.

Fighting climate change
As part of our growth strategy, we plan on developing and implementing a ‘Climate Positive’ policy. We wish to go beyond the net zero language and ensure we deliver a sustainable net positive contribution to climate change, the environment, and our society. This is under development / implementation this year. In the meantime, we already adopt working practices by default which are more sustainable and help us on our way. These include flexible and virtual working, reducing the need for unnecessary commuting. When we do travel, we encourage walking, running and cycling, with a cycle to work scheme in place. We have local offices with restricted or no parking to discourage car use and encourage public transport instead, including e-scooters in the city. The car is ideally the last resort option, shared with others where possible. We have implemented a Carbon offsetting expenses card which will offset 1kg of CO2 for every £1 spent (www.carbonpay.io). We are also able to calculate our carbon footprint for our travelling and we plan to offset the CO2 produced annually through recognised carbon offsetting schemes. All of this and more will be drawn together in our ‘Climate Positive’ policy.Covid-19 recovery
Since the Covid pandemic began, Apache has grown from 6 x FTEs to 50+ FTEs. We have pursued growth at a time when many have been furloughing or letting people go. We did not stop during the pandemic, and as a predominantly work from home consultancy, we were already well set up for secure virtual working before the covid restrictions were implemented. We continue to build on our growth ambitions, with recruitment activities continuing across all our skill and experience areas. We offer high-quality full-time employment to all our members with generous supporting benefits, and we will continue to do so.Tackling economic inequality
Our flexible and virtual working policy, including working from home, ensures we can offer high quality employment to people from all areas of the UK. We are not restricted to already affluent city hubs and University towns. This helps us to contribute to providing opportunity for all, wherever they are geographically based. Our recruitment activities are increasingly diverse as we grow. Our members require STEM skills and qualifications, and all of our recruitment activities, including our planned apprentice and graduate schemes, will target STEM skills. We have established ourselves through recruiting experienced consultants to date. To reach our growth ambitions, we have invested in a graduate scheme which started in 2023, we are considering an apprentice scheme to follow on from this. We will provide the latest commercially available and bespoke training relevant to our field, including cutting edge cloud technologies, and the latest thinking in innovation, delivery, and organizational efficiencies. Our aim is to make a professional out of everyone who joins us. Currently, all our members have one or more of the following professional qualifications: Masters or Batchelors degree, PhD, Chartership, or technical or P3M related professional certification. We are currently coaching existing members through their professional development to achieve professional accreditation and/or chartership with their chosen bodies (E.g. IEE, IMechE, INCOSE). We provide coaching, mentoring, structured training, and funding, and this is in addition to the challenging roles our client projects provide. Many of our members are involved with their local schools and colleges, either as part of their personal professional development, or through existing family or professional links. We fully support this kind of outreach and encourage all our members to get involved.Equal opportunity
We are an equal opportunities employer and do not tolerate discrimination on any grounds. We continuously review our recruitment practices to identify where we can improve and offer equal opportunities for all. We do not discriminate, we seek people who are talented and passionate about what they do, and we seek to build a diverse company. Working in defence and engineering makes this a bit more of a challenge than other sectors, but it is something we recognise we need to continuously work harder on. We collect basic stats on the demographics of our members. We do not currently have a published modern slavery policy but despite being exempt from this, we plan to publish one as part of our growth strategy. We obviously do not participate in or condone any form of modern slavery, and we ensure this is the cause for any suppliers we engage with. We seek to provide high quality and secure full-time employment to our members along with additional meaningful benefits that help them to prosper.Wellbeing
All our members are free to work flexible hours from home (or wherever is convenient) as often as they wish, and this is our default setting. We do not impose any requirements on when and where they work. We only ask that they deliver the outcomes that our clients and our business require, and we trust them to make this work. How they do this, and how they integrate this into their personal lives, is up to them. This means that our members can work from all regions of the UK, they do not need to be co-located with our main offices or clients, which in turn improves their wellbeing through reduced stress. This is made possible through the use of the latest cloud-based technology, not to mention a greater willingness of our clients to embrace this way of working. We also provide all members with 2 days of additional paid leave each year to carry out volunteering or charitable activities should they wish to. These can include schools and college engagements. We also reserve up to £10k per year to donate to our chosen charitable causes. We have made the Mental Health at Work Commitment and we are continually developing and implementing our ‘company health & wellbeing’ blueprint. We have an appointed health & wellbeing lead who has full support of the board and funding to ensure our approach leads the way and meets and exceeds the 6 standards. We already promote and encourage a healthy interaction between work life and home life, healthy eating, group exercise, we provide corporate encouragement to physical recreation activities for our members, and we sponsor team building events (including participating in UK Challenge, the worlds leading team building event). But we can always do more, and we will.
