Onboarding and offboarding

Getting started
Users start using VMware Cloud Foundation on AWS EVS through vendor-provided resources. VMware and Amazon Web Services provide online documentation, product guides, reference architectures, and knowledge bases covering setup, configuration, and operation. Online training and self-paced learning resources are available from VMware and AWS.

Xtravirt can provide optional onboarding assistance, knowledge transfer, training, and professional services if purchased separately. These services are not included as part of the licence-only offering.

End-of-contract data extraction
Customer data remains hosted within the customer’s Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) environment inside the customer’s AWS VPC. Amazon EVS deploys and runs a VMware Cloud Foundation environment on EC2 bare metal instances in the customer’s VPC, and customer workloads run as standard VMware virtual machines within that environment.

When the contract ends, users extract or migrate their data by exporting or moving VMware virtual machines using VMware-supported formats and tools (for example, vMotion/OVF where applicable) and migration tooling such as VMware HCX, which Amazon EVS supports for workload migration. Data extraction and migration are performed by the customer within their AWS account. No supplier-managed data extraction is required.
End-of-contract process
At the end of the contract, the customer’s right to use VMware Cloud Foundation software licences ends in line with the applicable VMware (Broadcom) licence terms. Customer workloads and data remain hosted within the customer’s Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS) environment in their AWS account, which continues to operate under AWS terms unless terminated separately by the customer.

The contract price includes the VMware Cloud Foundation software licence and the associated VMware support entitlement for the contract term. It does not include infrastructure services from AWS, service transition, migration activities, or operational management.

Additional costs may apply for licence renewal, changes to VMware support tiers, AWS EVS consumption, AWS Support plans, or optional professional services such as migration or training, if purchased separately.

Independence of resources
Each customer environment runs within a dedicated Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS) private cloud deployed in the customer’s own AWS account. Compute, storage, and networking resources are allocated exclusively to that customer and are not shared with other organisations.

Workloads from other customers cannot access or consume these resources. Performance and capacity are determined by the customer’s selected EVS configuration and AWS resource allocation, ensuring that demand from other users does not affect the customer’s environment.

Availability and resilience

This service provides software licences only and does not include a supplier-provided availability guarantee or SLA.

Availability commitments are defined by Amazon Web Services Elastic VMware Service (EVS) under the AWS EVS Service Level Agreement. AWS EVS provides an availability commitment for the EVS service based on the monthly uptime percentage of the EVS environment, subject to the customer meeting AWS configuration and usage requirements.

If AWS does not meet the EVS SLA, eligible customers may receive service credits in accordance with the AWS EVS SLA terms. Any refunds or credits are provided by AWS, not the supplier.

VMware Cloud Foundation includes software capabilities that support high availability when deployed on resilient infrastructure, but no availability SLA or service credits are provided as part of this licence-only service.
Approach to resilience
VMware Cloud Foundation is designed to support resilient architectures through software features such as clustering, workload restart, and distributed services. These capabilities support high availability when deployed according to supported designs.

When running on Amazon Web Services Elastic VMware Service (EVS), resilience is underpinned by AWS datacentre design, including redundant power, cooling, networking, and hardware within AWS Regions. EVS infrastructure resilience is managed by AWS.

The overall level of resilience achieved depends on customer architecture choices, including cluster sizing, failure tolerance configuration, and backup or disaster recovery design. Detailed resilience architecture is available on request.

Outages are reported through vendor-operated channels for Amazon Web Services Elastic VMware Service (EVS) and VMware Cloud Foundation.

Public dashboard: AWS Service Health Dashboard provides EVS service status and incident updates.

Different organisations are kept apart through isolation controls provided by Amazon Web Services Elastic VMware Service (EVS) and VMware Cloud Foundation.

Each customer is provisioned a dedicated EVS environment within their own AWS account. Compute, storage, and networking resources are not shared with other customers. VMware virtualisation enforces isolation at the hypervisor layer, while NSX provides logical network segmentation and traffic isolation. Management access is restricted using role-based access controls. Other organisations cannot access or impact a customer’s environment.

    • Inclusive and accessible recruitment practices, development practices and retention policies that support-focused activities including those provided in the Guide for line managers on recruiting, managing and developing which support people with a disability or health condition
