Description of service interface
The Threat Visualizer interface, powered by Darktrace's self-learning technology, continuously assesses the behavior of devices/users across the wider digital estate. Activity from remote endpoint devices, servers located in local datacenters, serverless architecture in public cloud environments or users working in third-party SaaS services is surfaced side-by-side.
Anomalous interactions and activity are highlighted to the end-user and prioritized for investigation by Darktrace's Cyber AI Analyst. Many operators start with these high-level investigations and then analyze detailed metadata and device or user activity in specialized interfaces.
The Threat Visualizer interface is flexible and accommodates a number of workflows and threat-investigation processes.

API
Yes
What users can and can't do using the API
The Darktrace API provides a method of accessing additional information about a particular alert or device in the Darktrace system. The API uses HTTP GET requests to return formatted JSON data containing the requested information and HTTP POST or DELETE requests to configure the system. The API can be an incredibly useful tool to integrate Darktrace with third-party SIEM or SOC environments, or perform bulk actions on devices and model breaches.

If using a physical master appliance, all data is stored on the customer site with no external storage of data. Darktrace does have a call home functionality that enables Darktrace to run diagnostics and provide update to its own appliance. The Darktrace can appliance will make an encrypted outbound SSH connection to Darktrace HQ.
If using a cloud master appliance, this is hosted the Darktrace AWS environment. The cloud instance is secured with 2FA, hardened OS on the VM (rate limiting, DDOS prevention). All data between master appliance and probes is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Data protection within supplier network
  • TLS (version 1.2 or above)
  • IPsec or TLS VPN gateway
  • Other
Other protection within supplier network
Data is transmitted with TLS1.2+ (HTTPS, SMTPS, POPS etc), SSHv2, IPSec/DTLS with AES-128-GCM or higher encryption. Weaker ciphers from the available suite are removed. SMBv3 is encrypted with AES-CCM encryption.

Information security policies and processes
Darktrace has a formally defined and documented information security policy, which is reviewed/updated annually and communicated to all employees.
The IT Group owns the overall governance of access control within the organisation. Department managers are responsible for determining the access levels required by their staff. The change control managers, along with support from the Security Team, will evaluate all requests and authorisations to determine what access is required. Each change control will include an information security risk assessment to manage potential risk.

Operational security

Configuration and change management standard
Conforms to a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v3.0 or SSAE-16 / ISAE 3402
Configuration and change management approach
Only software on the company’s approved software list may be installed on laptops, workstations and phones. A formal change control procedure is in place. Access to administrative credentials is restricted and devices are built to a standard specification. Development and Operations teams manage instances of customised or in-house software.
Vulnerability management type
Conforms to a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v3.0 or SSAE-16 / ISAE 3402
Vulnerability management approach
Darktrace Internal Security and Development Teams remain abreast of security notifications for any underlying libraries and platforms and will push out patches as part of the regular product or system updates. Darktrace leverages Python and NPM security tools in development environments to identify weaknesses, misconfigurations and vulnerabilities. Issues are remediated in line with the vulnerability management standard.
Protective monitoring type
Conforms to a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v3.0 or SSAE-16 / ISAE 3402
Protective monitoring approach
User activity is logged and routinely monitored for the purposes of error detection and security. The Security Team maintains necessary and proportionate levels of security monitoring coverage across the enterprise, including SaaS systems, on-premise infrastructure, and cloud environments.
Incident management type
Conforms to a recognised standard, for example, CSA CCM v3.0 or ISO/IEC 27035:2011 or SSAE-16 / ISAE 3402
Incident management approach
Incidents are raised to the Security Team. Business impact of the incident is assessed and if customer data is at risk, customers are notified within 24 hours. Evidence is collected and stored securely by the Security Team and accessed only by investigators. All investigators are independent of the incident itself. A formal incident report is written to determine the root cause, this is then reviewed to determine corrective or preventative actions
