How the planning service works
Service begins with an inception where all stakeholders refine a shared understanding of project scope, constraints, measures of success, high-level design and communications strategies.

We then work closely with your internal customers to define requirements and likely user needs. Cross-functional teams facilitate further user research and requirements gathering, collaborating with you to define an architectural/technical design and a vision for the implementation.

From the vision and design we create an agile backlog of work, facilitate prioritisation, release planning, and build the requirements into the agile software development lifecycle. With frequent iterative prioritisation and release planning we identify the best way to continiously optimise value delivery.

We incorporate security and other non-functional requirements into each stage of planning and delivery, identifying them early and understanding their priorities and impact on the work.

We can help understand the impact of technical debt and how it can be prioritised and accounted for. Using agile software development methodologies we adopt a just-in-time approach to analysis to reduce waste and speed up the delivery process and can react to changing requirements and emerging needs.

We will work collaboratively with your team. We can share knowledge, process and experience while establishing sustainable long term outcomes.

Your team members will be paired up with Thoughtworks team members in similar roles. This allows them to benefit from shared experience and domain knowledge in a positive environment where they can ask questions and learn on the job.
This collaborative learning can be supported and supplemented through formal and informal methods where applicable. These can include workshops, literature and “bite size” zoom sessions.

How the setup or migration service works
Based on your service's specific needs, we can help you select an appropriate cloud provider. We can review software and infrastructure architecture as well as codebase health to advise on an appropriate approach to migration, in addition to any architectural changes needed to meet your individual functional and non-functional (such as scalability, security and reliability) requirements.

Typically we do not endorse a "lift and shift" of systems as-is into the cloud. Rather, we will help you develop a cloud native architecture which will better suit deployment to the cloud based infrastructure. For example, using the right services in the cloud can help reduce licensing costs, run costs, TCO and time to release software. In addition we can help you adjust your custom services to better suit cloud deployment - for example by repackaging them or improving their scalability, operability and observability.

For migration, we typically endorse mitigating the risk of moving systems by designing gradual migrations and avoiding "big-bang" cutovers. We will help you plan and execute these migration steps, all whilst ensuring you continue to offer service to your customers and reduce risk.

How the quality assurance and performance testing works
Your solution will have our quality approach embedded into its delivery. Quality is incorporated across the agile software development lifecycle and is the whole delivery team’s responsibility. Minimising error and maximising quality, we use automation extensively for technical cloud migration and testing, ensuring repeatability and removing bias.
Our quality analysts are part of the development process from early on, analysing requirements and encouraging a testing mindset during development. This ensures teams understand how best to test their work, highlighting risks early, assuring quality by continual testing throughout development and monitoring in production. Frequent touch points between quality analysts and developers allows for quick reactions when defects occur, saving time and money by effecting fixes early on.
We bring extensive experience in performance (often coupled with zero-downtime tests), security, data migration and operational testing to add to standard functional quality assurance processes.
