Fighting climate change
To reduce our environmental impact as part of our contribution to social value we will address and reduce our carbon footprint.
As well as running a paperless office, we have set out our environmental management measures in our Carbon Reduction Plan which is measurable each year and includes:
• Confirming our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030 for our UK operations (20 years ahead of Government target).
• Providing emissions reporting of the CO2e (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent) for the greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol (predominantly carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide).
• Setting out the environmental management measures we have adopted including specific carbon reduction measures.
• Publication of our Carbon Reduction Plan on our website.
• Supporting initiatives that plant trees to offset carbon emissions. In 2023 we planted enough trees to offset 5 tonnes of our total carbon emissions.Covid-19 recovery
Like so many small companies, Covid-19 had a huge and long lasting effect on Global Resourcing. Going forward the biggest challenge is ensuring that the speed and streamlined working practices that we successfully unlocked during the pandemic remain sustainable. A significant part of this is considering not only potential strains on capacity but also the mental health of our workforce and the burnout often experienced by employees, especially when working in a remote environment.Tackling economic inequality
We were instrumental in establishing an apprenticeship scheme for the UK Home Office in conjunction with a London college. The success of this programme has been measured by the volume of apprentices within the scheme, currently more than 100 individuals.
This experience will allow us to establish our internal apprenticeship scheme specifically aimed at onboarding individuals to support this framework and the social value ambitions of our business and our clients.
Our success will be measured by achieving our target of 10% apprenticeship employment by 2025. We will consult with APUC member organisations to understand where we can best apply ourselves to upskill local talent and improve social mobility before committing to employ a minimum of three individuals. It will be vital that we understand the area’s most in need of support in order to target those areas and demographics in order to provide maximum community support and benefit.Equal opportunity
We previously worked with the charity Leonard Cheshire to onboard an intern who identifies as having a disability, with the intention of converting them to a permanent role after their qualifying period. If suuccessful we would commit to onboard an intern each year to specifically ensure that we are providing opportunities for differently abled young people.
This allows opportunity for a young person with a disability and contributes to the social value proposition of both our own business and institutions accessing the framework and will be measurable by the additional headcount generated.
We offer candidate coaching in support of social mobility and inclusion more broadly, including being able to demonstrate how our own hiring policies have given access to opportunity for a number of individuals. In particular, one of our most successful employees who additionally identifies as neuro-diverse, is an active campaigner for social mobility and we are proud of their achievements and success. The complimentary feedback and coaching sessions we offer are available for any candidates involved in one of our campaigns and are directly measurable, based on both candidate satisfaction and successful job-seeking statistics.
Our coaching sessions have been proven to support candidates with their career ambitions, CV production, LinkedIn and social media branding, interview style and technique. We have multiple testimonials and examples of candidates who have secured employment following these sessions.Wellbeing
We provide quarterly events on a range of topics, including diversity, most recently supporting employers with engaging with and hiring those who Identify as neurodivergent. We also provide access to monthly blogs on a range of topics to support wellbeing. These educational events are free of charge and their success is measured by both attendance and the feedback given formally and anonymously at the end of every session.
Whilst we offer these services as a paid consultancy offering, where we have an existing framework agreement in place, we offer complimentary training and support.
We offer coaching for any client who has commissioned us for a piece of work and are able to measure the success of these sessions as part of the feedback and continuous improvement sessions at the end. We also recognise the importance of ensuring our own team are supported, valued, and encouraged to be open about any issues that they may be facing, both work related or personal.
We have implemented and externally trained a company Mental Health First Aider, who in the first instance will assist or advise team members on further help that may be available, and in more critical situations is aware of crisis intervention protocol.
Recognising the potential for feelings of isolation that can present when remote working, we not only hold tri-weekly team ‘catch ups’ online but meet for overnight Away Days on a Quarterly basis, which recently have taken the form of a theme park, a Spa break and a Water Sports Activity Day. We feel this is crucial for ensuring the team are engaged on a personal level, and to aid with wellbeing.
