Service constraints
This service supports Microsoft 365 workloads only and cannot protect non-Microsoft SaaS applications. Backup and restore performance is dependent on Microsoft API availability, throttling, and service uptime. Certain workloads, such as Teams chats, Planner tasks, or OneNote notebooks, may have API-driven limitations affecting restore granularity. Initial full backups may take longer for large tenants. The service operates exclusively in Barracuda’s public cloud and cannot be hosted privately or in hybrid environments. Customers must maintain appropriate Microsoft 365 licences and configure retention, user coverage, permissions, and policies to meet organisational or compliance requirements.
System requirements
  • Microsoft 365 tenant with licensed workloads enabled for data protection.
  • Microsoft 365 user licences maintained for all protected organisation accounts.
  • Global Administrator permissions required to authorise Barracuda API access securely.
  • Microsoft Graph and relevant APIs must be accessible without restriction.
  • Supported modern web browser to access Barracuda Cloud Control interface.
  • Reliable internet connectivity, secure HTTPS communication to Barracuda cloud endpoints.
  • Organisation must configure retention policies according to internal compliance requirements.
  • Users require Microsoft permissions for initiating restores or data exports.
  • Multi-factor authentication for protecting administrative access to backup service.
  • No additional hardware, software , on-premise infrastructure components required.

Onboarding and offboarding

Getting started
Barracuda provides a range of resources and guidance to help users begin using Cloud-to-Cloud Backup quickly and effectively. Users are supported through comprehensive online documentation, including step-by-step setup instructions, configuration guidance, best-practice recommendations, and troubleshooting information. This documentation is available through Barracuda Campus, the vendor’s online knowledge base.

Barracuda also offers online training materials, including videos, walkthroughs and product guides that help administrators understand key features such as backup configuration, retention management, search, export and restore operations. These self-paced resources support both new and experienced users.

During onboarding, users are guided through an automated setup process, which includes authorising Microsoft 365 permissions, selecting data to protect, and configuring retention settings. The interface provides in-product guidance and contextual help to support each step.

Barracuda provides remote technical support, enabling customers to request assistance for configuration, operational queries, and platform behaviour. Support is delivered through online ticketing, email, and telephone channels depending on the customer’s support plan.

Barracuda does not typically provide onsite training for this service, as it is designed to be deployed and managed fully online. However, partners and resellers may offer additional onboarding or training services if required.

End-of-contract data extraction
Users can extract their backed-up data before the contract ends by using the export and restore functions within the Barracuda Cloud Control interface. Mailbox items, files, folders, SharePoint libraries, Teams data and other supported workloads can be exported in standard formats (such as PST for email or original file formats for documents). Users initiate exports directly through the portal and download the resulting data securely to their own storage.

All data must be downloaded prior to contract expiration, as access to the service and stored backups is removed once the subscription ends. Barracuda does not provide offline media exports or bespoke extraction services.
End-of-contract process
The contract price for Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup typically includes access to the cloud-based backup service for Microsoft 365 workloads, covering Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Teams, Groups and supported associated data types. The subscription includes unlimited storage and retention within Barracuda’s cloud environment, automated and scheduled backups, granular restore capabilities, point-in-time recovery, search functionality, export tools and access to the Barracuda Cloud Control management interface. Standard online documentation, knowledge-base resources, and access to Barracuda technical support according to the customer’s contracted support tier are also included.

Additional costs may apply where customers require higher levels of support, optional service add-ons, or enhanced features not included in their base subscription tier. These may include premium support plans, advanced security or data-protection modules offered by Barracuda, or any professional services delivered by partners or resellers for onboarding, configuration or training. Costs may also arise if users require third-party tools, consultancy, or integration services outside the standard product scope. Offline media exports, bespoke data-migration support or post-contract data recovery services are not included and would incur additional charges if available.

Differences between the mobile and desktop service
The service is fully accessible on mobile devices; however, the interface is primarily optimised for desktop use. Mobile users may experience reduced visibility of detailed dashboards, reports, and backup information due to limited screen size. Some functions, such as bulk restores, multi-select actions, and configuration tasks, are easier and more efficient to perform on desktop browsers. Navigation may require additional scrolling on mobile, and complex workflows are better suited to larger displays. The desktop version therefore provides the full intended feature experience, while the mobile experience remains functional but less efficient for administrative tasks.

Scaling

Independence of resources
Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup operates on a multi-tenant, cloud-based architecture designed to ensure that one customer’s activity does not negatively impact another’s performance. The platform uses scalable infrastructure with automatic load balancing, enabling compute and storage resources to expand as demand increases. Backup and restore operations run in tenant-isolated workflows, preventing large jobs in one organisation from affecting others. Barracuda also applies workload distribution and rate-management controls to avoid excessive demand on shared systems. These measures ensure consistent performance and service availability regardless of variability in usage across the customer base.

Azure protects customer data at rest through default AES-256 encryption applied automatically across all storage services. Encryption keys are secured in FIPS 140-2 validated HSMs using Microsoft-managed keys, or customers can use Azure Key Vault for customer-managed keys or BYOK. Data is encrypted before storage and transparently decrypted on access, using a layered DEK/KEK model. Some services support optional double encryption for enhanced assurance. Data is further protected by Azure’s physical datacentre security controls, strict access governance, and compliance with standards including ISO 27001, SOC reports, and NCSC cloud security principles.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup is delivered as a cloud-based SaaS platform designed for high availability and operational resilience. The service is built on Barracuda’s distributed cloud infrastructure, which includes redundancy across compute, storage and network layers. Barracuda aims to provide a target availability of 99.9%, reflecting the expected uptime of its cloud services.

The platform is monitored continuously, and Barracuda employs automated failover, load balancing and regional resilience to minimise service interruptions. In the event of an incident, Barracuda provides service status updates and remediation through its standard support channels.

Barracuda does not publish a formal, financially backed SLA for Cloud-to-Cloud Backup. As a result, no service credits or refunds are offered if availability falls below the target level. The service is therefore provided on a best-efforts basis, consistent with industry norms for similar multi-tenant SaaS backup platforms.

Customers experiencing extended or significant availability issues may contact Barracuda Support for investigation and escalation. Barracuda’s commitment is to restore normal service operation as quickly as possible, but compensation or refunds are not included within the standard subscription terms.
Approach to resilience
Our service is architected for high resilience and continuous availability, in strict alignment with Cloud Security Principle 2: Asset Protection and Resilience. Our platform is hosted by a leading hyperscale cloud provider, utilising geographically separate, Tier III+ datacentres that provide redundant power, cooling, and network connectivity to eliminate single points of failure.
All production systems operate in an active-active configuration across multiple Availability Zones within a region. This design enables automatic failover and load balancing in the event of hardware failure. Regular backups and integrity checks stored in secure, offsite locations to support robust disaster recovery.
Network resilience is maintained by our hyperscale cloud provider through diverse routing, advanced load balancing, and always-on DDoS protection that mitigate external threats. Service uptime and performance are continuously monitored and alerting systems that trigger immediate operational response.
Detailed datacentre architecture, including specific physical security controls and resilience configurations, is available to authorised Buyers upon request.
Outage reporting
Barracuda reports service outages and operational incidents primarily through its public service status dashboard, where customers can view real-time and historical availability information for Barracuda Cloud services, including Cloud-to-Cloud Backup. The dashboard provides status updates, incident details and recovery progress.

Customers may also receive email notifications for significant service events or disruptions if they are subscribed to Barracuda’s support or alerting communications. In-portal notifications may appear within Barracuda Cloud Control during active incidents.

Barracuda does not provide an outage-reporting API and does not automatically push machine-readable status data to customer systems. All updates are provided via the public dashboard and support communications.

Information security policies and processes
We operate an ISO 27001-aligned Information Security Management System (ISMS) that governs policies for access control, data protection, incident response, supplier security, and business continuity. These policies define the technical and organisational measures required to preserve confidentiality, integrity, and availability across all services.
Governance is overseen by our Information Security Officer (ISO), who reports directly to the Directors and chairs the Information Security Steering Group responsible for policy oversight, risk assessment, and continual improvement. All policies are formally approved by the Directors, communicated to all staff, and reviewed at least annually or in response to significant operational or regulatory change.
To ensure compliance, all personnel complete mandatory security and data protection training on induction and annually thereafter. Access to systems is managed through role-based permissions, enforced multi-factor authentication, and regular entitlement reviews. Adherence to policies is monitored via internal audits, vulnerability scans, penetration testing, and log monitoring, supported by an ISO 27001-aligned audit cycle.
Any non-conformities, security incidents, or potential breaches are promptly logged through our ISMS incident process, investigated by the Information Security Officer, and reported to senior management with defined corrective and preventive actions.
