It is possible to integrate the Risr Advance with various third-party systems. The API can be used to both import and export data, including user profile data (such as personal data, and learning data and placement information), as well as results and status information. This can be achieved by using our public API, which allows organisations to directly integrate Risr within their existing business information systems. The API uses a RESTful structure, and data is exchanged in JSON format. For some high-stakes exam functionality, select API calls are made available on request. A fair usage policy applies.

Data security and privacy are taken extremely seriously by Risr. Risr follows industry best practices and processes, and has a mature policy framework in place. Security and data regulation compliance have board ownership, and our activities are regularly reviewed and audited by independent third parties. Risr is fully compliant with the GDPR and DPA. This includes processes to support rights exercised under this legislation. A centralised compliance management platform is used to continually monitor compliance with information security standards. This includes a comprehensive set of policies and procedures, which set out how Risr will process customer data.

Risr has ISO27001, Cyber Security Essentials Plus and CSA Star certification, and as part of this we have controls in place to ensure that client data is secure at all times. Detailed guidance and information can be provided on request, and more information can be found at trust.risr.global

Operational security

Configuration and change management standard
Conforms to a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v3.0 or SSAE-16 / ISAE 3402
Configuration and change management approach
As part of the Software as a Service offering, configuration and changes are managed and tracked in-line with our standard process via change requests raised in the ticketing system, including bug fixes, configuration changes, source code changes.
Changes are tracked and monitored, via secure role-based approval processes and reported on at regular development and service change reviews. Changes are fully auditable and tested and must include, who raised the change, the reason, security risk (in-line with ISMS and GDPR) and the output expected. Changes also include responsibility / impact / value of the change along with the assigned resource.
Vulnerability management type
Conforms to a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v3.0 or SSAE-16 / ISAE 3402
Vulnerability management approach
Initial identification of assets to be protected takes place and the threats that may exist to them. Each asset is assigned a risk and impact assessment, and this is used to develop a risk treatment plan (where risks are mitigated, accepted, eliminated, or transferred). We have a fast track release procedure for critical fixes and patches, that allows low risk fixes to be rapidly deployed. We subscribe to industry standard security notification sources. A standardised vulnerability scoring framework is used to prioritise vulnerabilities.
Protective monitoring type
Supplier-defined controls
Protective monitoring approach
A range of methods are used to identify potential compromises. All access to servers is centrally logged and monitored in a SIEM system, and intelligent threat detection systems such as AWS Guard Duty are used to detect anomalous activity on the system. Alerts are configured, and administrators notified. After a potential compromise has been detected, the information security manager must be notified. There will then be an investigation and analysis of the severity of the compromise and a plan of action decided. Internally security incidents are highly prioritised, and we make all reasonable efforts to address them immediately.
Incident management type
Supplier-defined controls
Incident management approach
An incident management and breach response plan is in place. These are tested against prospective incidents, and specify roles and responsibilities. This includes a communications and contacts plan, and notification to affected customers in an appropriate time frame. Users can report incidents through the service desk, and indicate a severity level. Our response to the incident will be through the service desk, and other appropriate communication channels. Incident reports and root cause analysis is performed for severe and critical incidents.

Fighting climate change

In addressing the critical issue of climate change, organisations must consider every method to minimise their environmental impact. Risr's assessment software plays a key role in this effort by aligning with customer’s sustainability strategies.

Our platform is hosted on AWS, which operates on 100% renewable energy. This collaboration ensures that all digital assessments and resources provided by our platform are powered by green energy, aiding the transition to net-zero by reducing the carbon emissions associated with conventional energy sources. In addition, low carbon steel and concrete is used by AWS, as well as low-emission hardware.

Adopting Risr's digital platform helps organisations significantly reduce the need for paper and ink, helping to decrease both the consumption of these materials and the environmental degradation associated with their production. Additionally, our digital delivery system eliminates the necessity for the physical transport of exam papers, thereby reducing carbon emissions linked to such logistics.

Risr enables the remote delivery of exams and assessments, significantly cutting down on travel-related carbon emissions for both candidates and examiners. This not only makes the assessment process more efficient but also helps in reducing the transportation footprint. We have seen signifiant reductions of thousands of car- and flight-hours in organisations that have adopted our solutions. Our software includes advanced online collaboration tools that further reduce the need for face-to-face meetings, thus conserving resources and minimising travel emissions.

As a distributed company, Risr naturally lowers the requirement for daily commuting, significantly decreasing our overall carbon emissions. Furthermore, Risr promotes recycling and environmental responsibility among our employees and the communities we serve, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability. We discourage the use of printed materials internally, and are a digital-first organisation.

Through these measures, Risr has helped many organisations make significant steps in their transition to net-zero operations.

Covid-19 recovery

As the world continues to navigate the recovery from COVID-19, organisations are adapting to new challenges and opportunities in the way they operate. Risr's platform is well positioned to support these transitions, offering robust solutions that facilitate both in-person and remote operations. This flexibility is vital for maintaining continuity in education, certification, and professional development across various sectors.

During the pandemic, Risr not only sustained its growth but also actively expanded, creating new roles that align with the shifting employment landscape. We have launched a training academy to offer opportunities in digital technology to those who previously might not have had access, helping to close the digital divide and promote inclusive growth.

Our commitment to health and safety is paramount. Risr ensures uninterrupted access to examination and assessment services for those who are clinically vulnerable or shielding by offering robust remote delivery options. This inclusivity extends across all our services, guaranteeing that they are accessible to everyone.

In the healthcare sector, Risr has played a critical role both during and after the pandemic. Our platform has facilitated the continuous examination and training of doctors and healthcare practitioners, helping to build and sustain capacity within the NHS. This support has been crucial in ensuring that healthcare services remain robust and responsive.

Risr also aids organisations in their digital transformation efforts, enabling them to continue critical business activities in a remote and distributed fashion. This transformation is not just about addressing immediate challenges but also about building resilience for future disruptions. By adding resilience and flexibility to organisational operations, Risr helps ensure that businesses can adapt quickly to future critical incidents.

Through these initiatives, Risr does more than just provide assessment solutions; we act as a partner in enabling organisations to effectively navigate post-pandemic recovery, ensuring long-term resilience and fostering inclusive growth.

Tackling economic inequality

Tackling economic inequality requires focused strategies that generate new jobs, enhance skills, and strengthen supply chain resilience. Risr’s assessment software is central to these efforts, empowering organisations and individuals to bridge gaps in economic opportunities.

Creating new jobs and opportunities is at the heart of our initiatives. Through our operational expansion and the development of our training academy, Risr is actively creating job opportunities, particularly in high-demand areas such as digital technology. These opportunities are vital in regions suffering from high unemployment or underemployment, helping stimulate local economies and reduce disparities.

Risr works extensively in the apprenticeship sector across various skill areas, delivering exams and maintaining high standards of certification. By providing robust assessment tools, we ensure that apprentices achieve the required competencies in their fields, contributing to a skilled workforce that supports economic growth and innovation.

We are dedicated to the continuous professional development of our employees, allocating significant budgets for personal learning. This investment ensures that our team remains at the forefront of industry developments and supports their career progression and economic mobility.

Our platform supports lifelong learning, offering accessible training and certification opportunities crucial for economic advancement. This continuous skill development is key to helping individuals secure better-paying jobs and advance economically.

As an equal opportunities employer, Risr champions a diverse and inclusive workplace. Our fair and equitable employment practices ensure that all team members, regardless of background, have equal access to opportunities, underscoring our commitment to combating economic inequality.

By leveraging our technology and resources, Risr does more than provide assessment solutions; we actively contribute to reducing economic inequality. Our initiatives in creating jobs, advancing skills, and enhancing supply chain resilience are crucial for fostering a more equitable economic landscape.

Equal opportunity

Risr's assessment software plays a significant role in helping organisations create more inclusive and equitable environments. Our tools ensure that all candidates are assessed fairly and without bias, supporting the enhancement of equal opportunities across education, employment, and professional development.

Risr facilitates a standardised assessment process that minimises biases related to background, gender, ethnicity, disability or socioeconomic status. We help ensure that candidates are evaluated based on their abilities and knowledge, promoting a meritocracy where opportunities are determined by merit.

We prioritise making our software accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. By adhering to the highest standards, Risr ensures that everyone can effectively use our platform. This inclusivity broadens the reach of educational and professional opportunities, helping to foster a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

Our commitment to equal opportunity extends to continuous learning and development. Risr provides ongoing training and development resources, ensuring that individuals have the tools they need to continually develop their skills and advance in their careers. This helps bridge the gap between different groups, supporting social mobility and economic equality.

Risr is also committed to ethical practices, especially in preventing modern slavery within our supply chain. We proactively mitigate risks by conducting rigorous vetting of suppliers to ensure compliance with labour laws. This commitment reinforces our dedication to social responsibility and equal opportunity. Furthermore, Risr is an equal opportunities employer. We adhere strictly to policies that promote diversity and inclusion in our hiring and employment practices across all protected characteristics, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to contribute to and grow with our company.

Through these integrated strategies, Risr does more than just provide assessment solutions; we are a partner in promoting equal opportunity, ensuring that education, hiring, and professional development are accessible and fair, thus contributing to a more equitable society.

Wellbeing

Risr has long championed employee wellbeing by offering flexible work arrangements, allowing staff to choose between working from home or in local office spaces. This flexibility has been key in enhancing employee happiness, allowing them to seamlessly integrate their work and personal lives. Equipped for remote work well before the COVID-19 pandemic, we provide necessary tools such as home office equipment, and access to video conferencing and internal communications platforms.

To support mental and physical health, Risr introduced a specific working from home policy, which has evolved into a permanent wellbeing fund. Employees can use this fund at their discretion for activities like counselling, gym memberships, or hobbies, promoting a balanced lifestyle.

Our company culture fosters a friendly, collegiate atmosphere with regular company-wide calls that include non-work-related social breakouts. We encourage face-to-face team meetings to strengthen bonds and enhance teamwork. Employees are also encouraged to bring their whole selves to work, contributing to our low turnover and high retention rates.

For those needing or preferring a traditional work setting, Risr provides well-lit, welcoming local office spaces. Additionally, we offer employees the opportunity to meet regularly with a third-party work coach at the company's expense, supporting continuous professional and personal development.

Risr supports lifelong learning, offering virtual courses and covering expenses for books, even if they are not directly work-related. We believe expanding knowledge benefits the entire organisation.

Moreover, Risr offers unlimited holiday entitlement, including at least a two-week continuous break annually to ensure employees can fully recharge.

Our recruitment processes transparently promote our inclusive culture and equal opportunities commitment, ensuring all job advertisements reflect our dedication to diversity and equality across all demographics.

Through these practices, Risr not only enhances employee wellbeing but also sets a benchmark for a supportive and empowering workplace environment.
