- End-of-contract data extraction
-
The only user data that we hold is service location data, which is uploaded as a list of postcodes. Users can download this at any time from within the tool.
Users are also able to download any reports they have generated from within the tool.
We do not store raw data when users upload their own organisational datasets, this is aggregated on import and therefore users will not be able to extract the raw data for data protection reasons.
We remove user data at the end of the contract in line with our data retention policies. - End-of-contract process
-
Local Insight is an annual subscription product. We contact clients 4 - 6 weeks ahead of the contract end date to confirm whether they are continuing with the subscription.
For those that do not wish to continue, there are no additional costs associated with ending the contract (although normal termination terms apply). At the end of a contract, we will disconnect access to the tool. We will keep the account open, but not active, should the users decide to renew the subscription at a later date. However we will remove the individual users from the organisation in line with our data retention policies.
If a client has a public facing version of the tool, this will be taken offline.

- What users can and can't do using the API
-
Users can set up the Datastore API through the Local Insight platform if they have Group Admin access. Setup involves generating an API key, then using the built-in query builder to select indicators, time periods and geographic areas. The tool generates ready-made API queries that can be copied into Power BI, Excel, Python or other BI tools, allowing users to automatically pull Local Insight data into their own systems.
The Datastore API is read-only. Users cannot make changes to Local Insight data through the API. Any changes or transformations happen outside of Local Insight, for example by refreshing dashboards, combining Local Insight data with internal datasets, or updating visualisations in BI tools.
There are some limitations. Only Group Admins can access the API, and usage is capped at 20 MB per month under standard access, with larger exports using more allowance. Unlimited API usage is available as a paid add-on. - API documentation

- Description of customisation
- Users can customise the platform in several ways. They can choose which datasets are displayed on Maps and create their own custom areas using a range of methods. Reports are flexible, allowing users to select which themes are included, and for an additional cost, organisations can commission bespoke report themes. Users can also tailor the services by importing their own data to sit alongside Local Insight data. Organisations using the Public Site service can apply their own branding and custom URL. Access can be controlled by choosing which modules are available to users and which are restricted. Users can also control types of users to dictate individual access.
