- How the planning service works
- Our cloud support services are designed to assist buyers plan how they’ll implement a private cloud hosting service. Our particular niche is in the design, delivery and in-service support of geospatial systems (GIS) and services, to facilitate information management and exploitation in fixed and deployed environments. From the outset, we take a user-focused approach by engaging directly with our customers, to understand their precise needs and business context. Whether for a new cloud-based service or an existing service that is migrating to the cloud, we ensure that we fully understand the service construct and its associated application, infrastructure and security architecture. Our core service incorporates business and user requirements definition, gathering system requirements, process engineering, detailed analysis and vendor assessment, functional modelling and managing scope. These services complement a broader range of activities such as building business cases, benefits management and organisational or workflow design. Specifically, an options analysis helps identify potential improvements for consideration. We also provide comprehensive and detailed specifications in response to the project scope, typically based upon requirements gathered in a collaborative manner. These activities are followed by service strategy and design, and continues with transition management and service integration and management services.

Our experienced project and technical teams support organisations during the deployment and migration of cloud services. We can help create and implement an efficient migration and deployment strategy and plan, which incorporates full project management support and considers crucial aspects, such as cut-over plans, business readiness, go/no-go criteria, provision of roll-back services and user testing.
In particular, we support the transition from a current way of working to a desired future state, recognising the specific implications of using cloud technology. We take into account the potential requirements for business change effort, handover plans to business-as-usual, transition governance and escalation, enhanced user support, risk management plans and deployment plans.

Helyx has adopted a tailored approach to project management, which is fully compliant and consistent with ISO9001 (Quality Management) and based on PRINCE2, Agile, and Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) best practices developed by the UK Office of Government Commerce. Our process is flexible and pragmatic and supports project management from start-up to project closedown, and is tailored according to the size, complexity, risk and value of the task to be undertaken. All Project Managers are formally trained practitioners. Quality assurance and performance testing services are integral to our project approach and operate according to ITIL best practice. Specifically, each project is fully tested and quality assured by specially nominated teams with dedicated Technical Governance.
At the outset of every project, the roles and responsibilities of all team members are fully defined. Ultimately, the necessary controls relating to performance (quality), time and cost are vested in the authority of the Project Manager, with appropriate senior management and Project Board governance, combined with a management by exception philosophy, and working within clearly defined tolerances. Controls are applied by the Project Manager, and facilitated through team meetings and customer meetings.

We invest in our workforce through the provision of continual professional development and through-life learning. To facilitate learning from experience, we employ individuals on a varied range of tasks (including role rotation), including peer organised skilled oriented employment. This approach is complemented by a formal appraisal process, coaching and mentoring. We also run regular company-wide events for individuals to share their experiences and to provide an opportunity to learn from each other and to consider and implement better ways of working. Occasionally, external guest speakers are also invited to participate. Moreover, we foster a culture and environment where individuals have the opportunity for improvement and advancement and where authority is delegated, so people are empowered, accept responsibility, and can identify opportunities for improvement. All our workforce has access to company funded training, and to be registered in their area of expertise with professional bodies.Equal opportunity
