Fighting climate change
NSSLGlobal have a robust Carbon Reduction Management Plan (CRMP) which is available on our website as well as an Integrated Management System which is ISO9001, 14001, 27001, 44001 & 45001 accredited which drives sustainability, develops resilience & contributes to the Environmental & Social Governance process. To combat climate change, we conduct Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting in accordance with UK legislation & participate in the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme, enabling us to identify savings in value & reduction of emissions. Our CRMP highlights the medium (50% reduction by 2035) & long term (100% reduction by 2050) carbon reductions in support for the reduction of climate change. We have identified transitional opportunities for the company, especially in the “green revolution” scenario, we now have 100% green suppliers for gas & electricity & have three electric vehicle recharging points (free for staff use) at the Redhill site & two Electric work vehicles which will in turn help with client’s upstream aspect for Scope 3 reporting. We operate a circular economy in ICT with lower levels of energy consumption & material use in manufacture, operation & disposal of assets, promoting reuse & recycling throughout the life of contracted services, minimising climate change & supply chain risks, recognising the need to add social value & conforming to ethical & legal requirements. During the COVID19 pandemic we refurbished old ICT equipment & donated laptops to disadvantaged local schools as part of our reuse policy. Redundant furniture is also reused in this manner being supplied to local charities. Significant environmental aspects of activities, products & services are identified & managed through recycling programmes & segregation of waste & where possible impacts are reduced & measured against our environmental objectives.Covid-19 recovery
NSSLGlobal were largely unimpacted by COVID19 however we did enact a return to office recovery plan post-lockdown, and have accelerated strategy to create new opportunities, new ways of working and improved workplace conditions to support the COVID19 recovery effort. For those shielding we provided separate office space and continued agility to support them. We have a Mental Wellness Champion and a mental health first-aider to support staff welfare and mental wellbeing. We apply current best practices in equal opportunities, staff wellbeing, ethics and training across the company and continually improve our way of working to increase wellbeing of staff. Our Health, Safety and Wellbeing strategy has strong focus on mental wellbeing, this was proven during the COVID pandemic, which has resulted in a hybrid working system of 2 days working from home per week as well as implementing socially distanced regulations throughout the offices. We provide mandatory training to all staff covering our regulatory obligations, UK Competition Law, bribery as well as security and privacy training; underpinning the creation of training and development plans for all staff. We want to ensure everyone feels included, providing equal opportunities for all. We have a diverse workforce and aim to continue to create a workforce that reflects the diverse societies in which we work, including recruiting locally and establishing apprenticeships within the company. Over the last year we recruited several apprentices as we train for the future and implemented the employment of over 15 new posts across the country in a number of roles/specialisms assisting those who were left unemployed by COVID19. We have a presence in Redhill, Newcastle and Cornwall with plans for new roles in these locations as well as opening a facility in Portsmouth this year, offering and focusing on local employment opportunities, which will also facilitate COVID19 national recovery.Tackling economic inequality
NSSLGlobal are a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact and are committed to their Ten Principles initiative which ensure we are providing equal opportunities for all.
We are a Disability Confident Employer and have a diverse workforce which reflects the diverse societies in which we work, including recruiting locally and establishing apprenticeships within the company. The graduate and apprenticeship schemes have enabled us to support the educational attainments that are relevant to current contracts which in turn allow us to fill any skill gaps and provide employment and training opportunities to a wider and more diverse range of employees. This year we have recruited several apprentices as we train for the future, as well as implementing the employment of over 15 new posts across the country in a number of roles/specialisms. We have a presence in Redhill, Newcastle and Cornwall with plans for new roles in these locations as well as opening a facility in Portsmouth that has focused on local employment opportunities and economically deprived areas.
We continually support local communities and during COVID19 we refurbished ICT equipment and donated laptops to disadvantaged local schools and reused redundant furniture in this manner donated to local charities.
We have a diverse supply chain from local companies and SMEs to larger suppliers, all of which have successfully met the criteria within our Supplier Questionnaire which includes questions on human rights, discrimination, diversity, child labour and modern slavery and human trafficking as well as business ethics. We are committed to treating suppliers fairly and acting in ethical and assured ways and improving the resilience of the supply chain. We apply current best practices in equal opportunities, staff wellbeing, ethics and training across the whole company and continually improve our way of working to improve equality and wellbeing for all.Equal opportunity
NSSLGlobal prides itself as an equal opportunities employer, are certified as a Disability Confident Employer and have a higher than industry average in terms of disabled and disadvantaged people in its workforce globally.
To facilitate our commitment, NSSLGlobal has ensured all its UK sites are disability friendly by design, including ease of building access (within security limitations), disabled toilets, ramps, staff lifts, accessibility considerations for shared recreational areas and facilities and on-site parking with prioritised disabled parking to facilitate access. NSSLGlobal’s company-wide hybrid working scheme and systems including working from home facilitates the ability for a wider range of disabilities to be accommodated within its workforce. Our corporate IT systems are tailorable to accommodate disabilities e.g., for personnel with visual impairment and hearing disabilities. Any other system adaptations will be discussed with new disabled personnel and implemented as required.
Internal training and induction consider disabilities and can be provided in bespoke ways as required (e.g., 1-2-1 or delivery via alternative means) which has been used to good effect with current employees with disabilities or limitations.
Aligned to the Equality Act 2010, NSSLGlobal has a robust and fair recruitment process with multiple interviewers/stages to moderate bias. NSSLGlobal only work with equal opportunities recruiters (vetted through our supplier management process) thus ensuring the best candidates, regardless of disability are identified and interviewed. To further facilitate diverse recruitment, NSSLGlobal has established its own Graduate and Apprenticeship schemes providing another route to access aligning with the Government’s agenda of getting more disabled people into higher education.
Key to supporting personnel with disabilities, NSSLGlobal has long-established a Mental Wellness Champion and mental health first-aider to support staff welfare and mental wellbeing.
We also have a Modern Slavery Statement, in compliance with section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, published on our website.Wellbeing
Key to supporting personnel, NSSLGlobal has long-established a Mental Wellness Champion and mental health first-aider to support staff welfare and mental wellbeing. During the Pandemic and with most staff working from home, information on mental health awareness and coping with stress have been shared Group-wide by the Company Mental Wellness Champion. Initiatives like Yoga and Wellness Zoom sessions were programmed several times a week to help staff to cope with physical and emotional challenges brought on by isolation and working from home. NSSLGlobal trialled a hybrid working scheme including working from home 2 days per week once the government guidelines for “stay at home” were lifted, this proved to be such a success that we implemented it permanently and rolled out company-wide.
NSSLGlobal are a certified Disability Confident Employer and aligned to the Equality Act 2010, we have a robust and fair recruitment process with multiple interviewers/multiple stages so bias is moderated. NSSLGlobal’s interview process ensures that access needs are considered. NSSLGlobal will only work with equal opportunities recruiters (as vetted through our supplier management process) thus ensuring the best candidates, regardless of disability are identified and interviewed.
NSSLGlobal support the health and well-being of local communities as well as its staff. An example of this is during COVID19 we refurbished ICT equipment and donated laptops to disadvantaged local schools, enabling the school children to continue with their schooling and education.
As a company, we work closely with our customers and as so many of our own people are ex-forces or government themselves, we understand their needs implicitly. Throughout the challenging years of Covid we were honoured to have been providing and subsidising crew welfare bandwidth upgrades and donating free crew calling cards to help counter the recorded increase in mental health issues onboard vessels and out in the field.
