Fighting climate change
Pixel is working towards the United Nations Sustainability Goals.
Carbon Reduction – Pixel’s policy is to mirror customer (Buyer) working practices whilst encouraging hybrid working. Our investment in technology and collaboration tools enables our colleagues to work from home wherever practical and possible to minimise travel. Pixel has also transitioned to an on-demand office/location model, ensuring an environmentally friendly strategy which prevents consumption of underutilised resources. This also provides on-demand facilities for customer (Buyer) meetings and business continuity/recovery. Again, this prevents the unnecessary consumption of underutilised resources.
Sustainability - Pixel operate a digital by default policy to maintain a paperless office and reduce the impact of waste on the environment, thereby promoting sustainability. In addition, we are also seeking to address digital poverty and encourage recycling, reuse and inclusive practice through the donation of legacy IT equipment to schools.
In Manchester, we support Open Kitchen. This Social Enterprise not only assists those who are struggling with food poverty, but also educates our team through workshops, encouraging sustainability, sourcing locally to reduce food transportation and reducing food waste. Our work with the Children’s Book charity, helps to recycle and reuse books.Covid-19 recovery
Apprenticeship Opportunities - Pixel were actively engaged in the UK Government’s Kick Start programme, to provide apprenticeship opportunities to those 16-25 year olds who could not find work in the post-COVID economy. Pixel recognised the importance of this scheme as a key supporter to DWP, to develop and implement the policy and processes to deliver this to the community.
Research has proven how Covid-19 has had a long-term affect on children of all ages reaching developmental milestones. Pixel has developed a volunteer reading programme, whereby colleagues go into primary schools to support children with their development. Research proves that a lack of vocabulary by the age of 11, can limit life choices and qualifications thereby reducing social mobility. Pixel is committed to supporting every child's opportunity to ultimately progress through their education and into employment.
Furthermore, we have recently begun supporting a charity called the Children’s Book Project and have ensured that over 2800 children, from some of the most deprived schools in London, will choose and keep at least two books of their choice. We continue to support, by encouraging book drop ins and engaging schools in the process.Tackling economic inequality
Local Recruitment – Pixel adheres to the Public Services Social Value Act (2012) and utilises the guidance of the British Standard on social value, BS 8950:2020. We have signed the Social Mobility pledge to address the targets that they have set. Pixel’s network spans all parts of the UK and we actively recruit locally wherever feasible.
Work Experience - Pixel provides work experience and work placement opportunities for students where appropriate, for the nature of the task. We also actively participate in schemes to develop young people through mentoring. For example, we are part of a mentorship programme through the Social Mobility Foundation, supporting young adults into further training and employment.
Pixel has sought membership of Social Enterprise UK and support organisations like Cook for Good, based in Kings Cross. Here, our team members cook meals for the residents who are experiencing food poverty.
Apprenticeship Opportunities - As a partner of the Social Mobility Foundation, Pixel’s Apprenticeship scheme utilises the principles of outreach, access, recruitment, and progression. This process helps to remove barriers to those who traditionally may be limited in their employment options or may come from lower social economic backgrounds.
Furthermore, we are an accredited Disability Committed Employer and understand the needs that those with a disability may face. Our Head of Talent has a registered disability and positively promotes accessible working environments and conditions. Additionally, Pixel is a Living Wage Employer and has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and supports the Defence Employer recognition scheme. All the projects that we support have a positive economic impact, either in the short or long term.Equal opportunity
Pixel has strict anti-discrimination policies and practice equal opportunity at all levels, through recruitment and in our business conduct.
We are active in supporting and participating in events that further the development of equal opportunities, for example the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT). AKT supports LGBT+ young people in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment.
Diversity and inclusion, integral to Equal Opportunities, are central to Pixel’s ‘Values’. ‘Respect’ is woven into our Values through the commitment to treating colleagues, associates, and clients with understanding, inclusivity, and consideration. We recognise and celebrate diversity. Our D&I plan is integral to how we operate and forms part of our company policy as it helps create a more inclusive workplace and fosters a culture that values and respects differences. Pixel policies are inclusive, both in terms of language and content, and reviewed and updated regularly.
We have clearly articulated our Statement of Commitment to our D&I plan in our policy and have ensured that we provide diversity and inclusion training as part of our onboarding process and annual training cycle. Pixel supports employees with Continuous Professional Development, including unconscious bias, disability, and neuro-diverse awareness, as well as equal opportunities, cultural competence, and micro-aggression awareness.
When recruiting, we ensure diverse candidate sourcing and implement strategies to attract a diverse pool of talent, including outreach to underrepresented groups. We ensure equal access to career advancement and development opportunities for all colleagues as well as flexible working arrangements to accommodate diverse needs, whether it is through flexible hours, training, or remote working.
Additionally, we use diversity metrics and set targets based on team analysis. For example, we have set a target of 50% of senior roles at Pixel to be represented by females by 2026.Wellbeing
Wellbeing and mental health awareness are crucial factors that our colleagues embody. We encourage our network and team members to ensure they are fulfilling their optimal work life balance and ensure they are maintaining a good mix of work and personal time. We are rolling out the Yu Life app for all employees, which actively encourages a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally.
Employees have access to counselling services if needed and regular coaching and mentoring from the Talent function. There are dedicated well-being days and rewards, as well as flexible working arrangements - for example, to allow for childcare and important family events. We support the Zoe Tynan Charity football tournament, assisting the many mental health challenges faced by young people today.
We adhere to the ‘Thrive at work’ agenda and ensure our colleagues have an opportunity to be heard, either one to one or through a group forum. We have encouraged the formation of Employment Research Groups to support various identity groups and provide a platform for employees to connect, share experiences and celebrate diversity.
We have a Pixel staff survey to assess our inclusivity in the workplace and gather feedback from colleagues, which also assists with wellbeing. Our rewards system, linked to our company Values of Respect and Integrity, recognises those who have contributed to diversity and inclusion efforts.
