How the training service works
Astraeus understands the importance of ensuring that end users are empowered to take advantage of the benefits delivered through business change. Training is embedded into the way that we deliver projects, enabling us to identify and optimise every opportunity to enhance capability from inception to delivery.
We work with Framework Buyers to create a bespoke training strategy for every project. As part of this strategy, Astraeus identifies different groups of users and aligns training activities to meet the needs of their respective roles. We identify super users or change champions within each user group. These individuals undertake the most extensive training and subsequently serve as custodians of advice/guidance for the broader user group.
Training is always tailored to meet the requirements of each project and can be delivered in a classroom setting (in person or online) or as pre-recorded content. Training programmes cover all capabilities, from new starters through to experienced users.
Astraeus also ensures that the knowledge which is created through project delivery is captured, documented, and handed over to the Framework Buyer to ensure that there is no ongoing dependency or reliance on the knowledge and expertise of project team members.

Fighting climate change

Reducing environmental impact is a business imperative for every organisation. Astraeus works to continually reduce the impact our business operations have on the environment. As a proud member of the Morson Group, we are working together to achieve our Net Zero Carbon goal by 2030.
• Adapting to climate change: Our carbon footprint is primarily comprised of emissions generated through electricity, gas and water usage in our offices, waste disposal, and commuting. Astraeus continues to reduce energy consumption, invest in renewable energy sources, deploy hybrid/electric vehicle fleets, install charging points at our offices to encourage electric vehicle usage. We also promote hybrid working, sustainable procurement, and carbon off-setting.
• Minimising waste: Minimising avoidable waste is further reducing our carbon footprint. Environmentally sound waste management and recycling facilities are available at all offices, and we divert all non-recyclable waste for energy processing. This reduces reliance on fossil fuels, generates renewable energy, and minimises the environmental impacts associated with waste disposal across our operations.
• Enhancing biosecurity: As part of the Morson Group, Astraeus collaborates with Treeapp to support its reforestation efforts. Our ‘Plant-a-Tree’ initiative sees one new tree planted for every new resource deployed to one of our customers. We identify suitable planting sites based on ecological considerations and select tree species that are well-adapted to local environments to maximise their ability to support biodiversity protection.
• Education and awareness: We host informative in-person workshops and webinars that raise awareness, inspire action, and empower communities to work together to fight climate change. Recent workshops have covered a multiplicity of issues including recycling, energy conservation, tree planting, and biodiversity protection.
• TOMs Framework: We consistently demonstrate our commitment to our objectives by transparently reporting on environmental initiatives using the National TOMs Framework for measuring Social Value.

Tackling economic inequality

Astraeus comprehensive range of Cloud support services are carefully designed to address economic inequality by focusing on the creation of in-demand skills growth. Resources required to support effective delivery of Cloud support services remain in huge demand across the public sector as organisations increasingly transition to Cloud-based solutions to improve efficiency, scalability, and data security. Through our training, apprenticeship, and scholarship programmes, we tackle economic inequality by creating new pathways to opportunity for diverse population groups.
• Training: Morson Group’s Pathfinders Academy offers a simple yet tailored approach to levelling up the highest demand skill areas within Cloud Support through the training/re-skilling of resources. Our training programmes are available to professionals from all educational, experience, industry, and social backgrounds – from students and ex-armed forces personnel to workplace returners. Through targeted engagement, carefully designed to address economic inequality, the Pathfinders Academy unlocks the unprecedented potential that is so prevalent across diverse population groups.
• Apprenticeships: As part of the Morson Group, we have over 100 apprentices enrolled across our diverse range of apprenticeship schemes. The scheme tackles inequality by providing opportunities for individuals from underrepresented/disadvantaged backgrounds to access high-quality education and gain valuable skills. Astraeus apprentices play a vital role in breaking down barriers to economic mobility and closing the growing skills gap across Cloud Support.
• Scholarships: From 2015, Morson have exclusively awarded scholarships to applicants from under-privileged backgrounds to support social mobility within academia. Since the scheme’s inception, a multiplicity of cohorts have become graduating scholars with our business.
The underrepresentation of diverse population groups is an issue that reflects systemic disparities and biases. Astraeus is committed to unlocking potential so often found in diverse groups – as we tackle economic inequality by expanding access to education and skill development.

Equal opportunity

Astraeus has a dedicated ED&I Champions Board that leads on all ED&I initiatives and partnerships. We are committed to equal opportunity and work proactively to improve the representation of diverse groups across our workforce:
• We empower all gender identities: We build authentic engagement amongst all gender identities – male, female, transgender, non-binary, and gender-fluid. By understanding and addressing individual needs, we develop project teams where all gender identities feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
• We target ethnic minority groups: We have developed a nuanced understanding of the specific challenges faced by some black/ethnic minority groups in the workplace. We proactively engage with people from minority backgrounds and work closely with Framework Buyers to cultivate project environments characterised by respect and inclusion.
• We enable social mobility: We continuously engage with people from socio-economically diverse backgrounds, empowering individuals’ potential for development through our training/ apprenticeship/ scholarship programmes.
• We promote ex-forces personnel: Ex-forces personnel have experience of working in a safety critical environment where risk management and project delivery are paramount. Through structured training and support, we develop their technical capability and transition into civilian life.
• We support disabled individuals: As a certified Disability Confident Employer, we actively engage with disabled communities and work with Framework Buyers to ensure that physical spaces are accessible, and the right support is always in place.
Astraeus continuously monitors diversity across our resource network to ensure that it remains reflective of the communities in which we operate. We regularly conduct ED&I sessions with Framework Buyers to encourage discovery across boundaries and to share expertise. We also proactively showcase the capabilities of inspirational individuals from diverse backgrounds as we continue to challenge societal stereotypes and conscious/unconscious biases.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing at work has never been more important than it is today. Most of us want to improve how we work, how we feel at work, and how we perform at work – and yet we often struggle to make and sustain those changes. Astraeus understands that wellbeing and performance are intrinsically linked. We have an ISO 45001 accredited Health & Safety department that is responsible for the range of wellbeing initiatives that are in place to promote the company’s commitment to resources’ positive mental health. Through Morfit, our wellbeing programme, Astraeus supports resources’ physical, mental, social, and financial needs by:
• conducting regular wellbeing checks.
• encouraging healthy lifestyles.
• facilitating opportunities to exercise.
• supporting remote and flexible working.
• advocating a good work life balance.
• promoting mental health awareness.
• running regular wellbeing workshops.
• offering an Employee Assistance Programme.
• providing financial support and advice.
• engaging with external organisations and advocacy groups.
• prioritising mental health and stamping out stigmas.
• supporting those experiencing mental health difficulties.
• safeguarding those in mental health crisis.
As part of the Morson Group, Astraeus has over 50 qualified Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) who are responsible for monitoring, and reacting appropriately, to the wellbeing of our resources. Our MHFAs work proactively to share best practices and create project environments where resources feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive – both personally and professionally. Anonymised data collected from our MHFAs enable us to monitor trends and continuously identify areas where further support may be required. Astraeus continues to prioritise wellbeing initiatives as we cultivate a workplace culture that understands and values the importance of positive mental health.
