Fighting climate change

Fighting climate change

QA’s environmental management system is accredited to ISO14001 and supports reduction of our carbon footprint.
We have taken many steps already to reduce our direct and indirect carbon emissions.
Increased use of virtual and digital training has enabled us to reduce our property portfolio and corporate travel significantly and our work-from-home policies reduce our environmental impact even further. We already procure zero carbon utilities where available and we encourage the same behaviours in our suppliers, customers and learners; we incorporate sustainability awareness into all our Bootcamps and Apprenticeships.
We have committee to reducing our carbon emissions to net zero by 2030.
We will achieve this by:
• Determining our current baseline energy consumption and carbon emissions within our business and our supply chain and setting targets for reducing those emissions.
• Reducing our direct and indirect carbon emissions to zero where possible and offsetting unavoidable emissions through sustainable offsetting projects by 2030. Ultimately, we aim to minimise and ideally eliminate the need to offset emissions altogether.
• Implementing improvements to building services and design that reduce and minimise energy use and direct use of fossil fuels.
• Working with our travel partners to encourage use of zero and low-carbon vehicles.
• Working with our supply-chain partners to encourage their adoption of net-zero carbon strategies.
• Making environmental awareness training mandatory for all staff.
QA is currently preparing an implementation plan for all our staff, suppliers, customers and communities, outlining our forthcoming environmental activity. This includes an action plan and science-based targets for our goal of being Carbon Neutral by 2030 as well as on going CSR.
Covid-19 recovery

Covid-19 recovery

We create employment, re-train and support return to work opportunities for those left unemployed by COVID-19.
We design programmes to provide people with skills that enhance their employability by:
• providing essential digital workplace skills, taught by QA’s expert tutors.
• delivering reskilling training for people whose employers are restructuring their workforce post-Covid
• supplementing digital skills with transferrable skills – communication/ problem-solving/commercial awareness.
• embedding industry-recognised certifications in our learning pathways.
• providing access to QA’s Cloud Academy portal – a continuous learning tool with hours of supplementary training content.
• signposting learners to local-job opportunities.
• offering networking opportunities with local employers.
• providing safeguarding, well-being and personal development.
Many of QA’s current social mobility initiatives support those in areas worst affected by Covid-19, widening access to employment and tackling barriers to participation faced by many who would like to start a career in technology.
Our current initiatives include:
• Apprenticeships – QA find, inspire, recruit and upskill 1,500-2,000 tech apprentices yearly and support local businesses across the UK. Apprenticeships are a great option for people looking to reskill post-pandemic.
• Teach the Nation to Code – every month, QA runs free Saturday coding workshops, open to anyone. Recent events have seen many attendees who have been adversely impacted by Covid.
Last year, QA successfully taught >250,000 learners through virtual classroom technology. We’re well-equipped to deliver Covid-safe learning and learning operations can continue with local/national restrictions in place.
We have a dedicated safeguarding team to support learners, which includes health and mental wellbeing. We make sure learners access safeguarding several times a year.
We provide workplace conditions that support the COVID-19 recovery effort, including effective social distancing, remote working for learners/staff alike, and sustainable travel solutions.
Tackling economic inequality

Tackling economic inequality

QA focusses extensively on the SME marketplace and generating partnerships for training.
We’re an equal opportunity employer and signatory to the Tech Talent Charter to address diversity imbalance. QA’s All-In initiative helps new tech-talent from less privileged backgrounds into meaningful roles.
We train thousands of people annually, helping the unemployed/employers that need to retrain existing staff to acquire in-demand tech skills and helping to address the skills gap at a societal level.
Our marketing campaigns help newly skilled learners gain employment and promote funded learning to the wider market to create new tech-talent. We advertise events on our website/social media.
QA has a diverse supply base of subcontractors, often SMEs/innovative start-ups that we support by facilitating presentations for them with our clients.
We innovate so that our learners’ digital experience is as excellent as it would be face-to-face. Our Virtual classrooms have seen record levels of fill rates, which enables lower cost per learner to our customers.
QA continuously develops new digital tools that allow learners to learn anywhere/any time/any way and we’re moving ahead of the market to offer our learning in modalities to suit all learning types.
We have found transparent, trusted relationships enables us to agree better pricing and more effective services, with an all-round benefit to our customers/supply chain/ourselves.
QA schedules regular penetration testing. We are audited by the external ISO27001 auditor bi-annually. These mandatory checks also apply to our supply chain.
Our Partner Solutions Team manages suppliers and develops new contractual arrangements with subcontractors. We embed the principles of sustainability within our procurement activities so that we select practicable and value-for-money products/services.
Equal opportunity

Equal opportunity

We work with partners to help promote our programmes, vacancies and opportunities to disability groups/networks. We also use on-line targeting tools such as Facebook/Instagram advertising to promote our programmes specifically to disabled people.
All our programmes are designed with accessibility in mind. The virtual nature of our delivery means there are no physical barriers to entry onto the programme. Furthermore, our on-line support team is available to support individual learners with any technical considerations they may need based on their individual circumstances.
Our learning materials have been produced in line with national accessibility guidelines and our trainers are available to offer support when required.
QA creates conditions whereby staff and learners are treated solely based on their merits, abilities and potential. Our Equal Opportunities Policy is reviewed annually and sets out guidance aimed at ensuring no person/staff member/learner, is unfairly discriminated against directly/indirectly as a result of any protected characteristic. We also produce an equality and diversity report yearly, setting out QA-wide initiatives to help advance equality across the business.
We continue to focus on mitigating the factors that drive inequality and our gender pay-gap by using evidence-based approaches and investing in tools, to enhance our rumination decision making process.
All our programmes are accessible. We use AI to attract and avoid bias in our assessment and candidate opportunity matching. We also work with specialist support groups to ensure tailored support that remove barriers to outcomes.
We regularly conduct our human rights risk assessment across the Group, and we stand by our zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking. We maintain policies which clearly set out our expectations for upholding human rights and take steps to ensure there is no modern slavery in our business or supply chains.
