Fighting climate change
SCIE has published a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) setting out our commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. We have measured our baseline emissions as the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
As a small organisation our baseline emissions are low and we seek to minimise our impact on the environment through: 1. Full working from home contracts, 2. Paperless environment (no printed documents, web-based only), 3. No photocopy facilities. 4. Virtual meetings for the majority of internal and external business as usual work.
Our Carbon Reduction Plan sets out the steps are taking to achieve Net Zero emissions, including: Appointing a SCIE
lead for CRP and sustainability, Maintaining a work from home first
approach to meeting and delivery, Supply chain mapping and review to work towards using the most sustainable suppliers, Reviewing our
pension funds and understanding options for employees to
invest in greener funds, Reviewing the opportunity for improved
energy efficiency and ethical equipment and recycling as contracts are renewed, Raising awareness and providing advice via our internal newsletter on improving energy efficiency and the usage at home use of renewable energy at home and Updating internal
governance to reflect in CRP.Tackling economic inequality
SCIE's Social Value Policy sets out our commitments to tackling economic inequality through increasing supply chain resilience and capacity. This includes producing a supply chain map of SCIE contractors so we can create a diverse supply chain including new businesses and entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs, VCSEs and mutuals.
We demonstrate collaboration throughout the supply chain, and a fair and responsible approach to working with supply chain partners including through ensuring that SCIE's sub contractors' contracts reflect social value themes and SCIE commitments.Equal opportunity
SCIE has an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Policy, EDI Strategy and Action Plan which set out our commitment to: Promoting a safe and inclusive working environment (internal), Promoting social justice (internal and external) and Tackling inequalities in social care (internal and external).
To meet SCIE's objective of reducing the disability employment gap we are a Disability Confidence employer and we make reasonable adjustments for employees with disabilities to support them in their role, for example through the provision of specialist equipment, We also monitor what disability related activity is delivered by contractors.
To meet SCIE's commitment of tackling workforce inequality we deliver a specific sector focused action each year as part of the EDI Policy and EDI Action Plan. We are reviewing and updating SCIE's internal policies to support in-work progression to help people, including those from disadvantaged or minority groups, to move into higher paid work by developing new skills. We have also published online an anti slavery commitment to manage the risks of modern slavery.
As well as working internally to tackle workforce inequality we also deliver external training to organisations and support to reduce inequalities in social care.Wellbeing
SCIE's Social Value Policy Strategy & Action Plan set out our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing (HWB) of our contract workforce and influencing our suppliers and stakeholders to promote good HWB.
We have a range of initiatives, policies and approaches in place to support our workforce including:
Inclusive policies which support HWB:
o Flexible Working Policy
o Inclusive and accessible recruitment policies and processes including Disability Confident
o Retention policies, including supporting people with protected characteristics/who need reasonable adjustments due to disability/long-term health conditions.
o Health and Safety Policy
o Homeworking guidance and toolkit
o Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies and action plan.
We have an Employee Assistance Programme providing access to 24/7 wellbeing information and guidance, counselling, an online health portal and Wisdom App.
We complete an annual staff surveys to gather perceptions of HWB at work and develop action plans in response to issues raised to ensure continuous improvement.
All staff are paid above the Real Living Wage.
All staff have an opportunity to join an affiliated Trade Union so they can access representation in relation to any issues relating to HWB.
In accordance with our procurement policies we also share our frameworks, standards and guidance with our suppliers with the expectation of alignment so they also support the HWB of their workforce.
