Social Value

Fighting climate change

Fighting climate change

What is our pledge?
In order to support our organisation’s commitment to environmental sustainability and social value, we have a core working party (ESS Group, Environmental, Sustainability & Social Value) who lead and promote initiatives that contribute to our roadmap and values.
The group are responsible for suggesting, recommending, initiating and communicating plans for developing or increasing the environmental sustainability roadmap. Plans are categorised into short, medium and long term roll out, and scored with consideration made against cost, implementation timeframes, achievability, business benefit and environmental benefit. We aim for 3-5 measurable and realistic targets within each timeframe.
Why is it important?
We want to act in a way which ensures natural growth for our business, whilst ensuring future generations have opportunities to live and work in a sustainable environment.
Our sustainable goals for this year include;
• Increasing recycling to over 90% across the business
• Increase our electric vehicle fleet where possible and viable
• Increase localised work bases to limit travel to sites
• Decommissioned equipment to be re-purposed for use. 85% of all decommissioned equipment to be re-purposed by end of 2022
Covid-19 recovery

Covid-19 recovery

Delivering Client Services and Protecting Our People.
The World Health Organisation declared the COVID-19 outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30th January 2020 and a pandemic on the 11th March 2020. The pandemic has affected millions of people and caused unprecedented disruption to businesses world-wide.
AJAR Technology continues its commitment to our people, our clients and their customers and has worked hard to maintain services where at all possible whilst ensuring safety and responsibility are at the heart of how we work. We are in regular contact with our clients, making sure we understand their specific challenges and requirements, and ensuring that we do everything we can to prevent the spread of the virus during the delivery of our services.

Our Senior Management Team has developed and delivered clear and thorough protocols for all of our people, both office based and with our ICT / Engineering teams to enable and ensure that the necessary technological platforms for new work systems are available where needed.

As a supplier of Digital and Physical SMART Buildings Solutions to a number of Central Government Departments, Police and HM Prisons, many of our employees are recognised as Key Workers and it was deemed essential that they continue to perform their duties to support Critical National Infrastructure during the pandemic. We have agreed protocols in place with a number of our clients to deal with emergency and maintenance regimes considered to be critical.
During this evolving and unprecedented crisis, we have adapted our working practices to ensure the health and safety of all employees, and all we serve.
Tackling economic inequality

Tackling economic inequality

Ajar Technology take social and environmental factors into consideration alongside financial factors in making decisions on the purchase of goods and the commissioning of services. Our purchasing decisions should where possible consider whole life cost and the associated risks and implications for society and the environment. Procurement can make a significant contribution to our goals of sustainable economic development and resource minimisation by ensuring that the hardware and services we buy consider optimum environmental performance. Procurement has an additional role to play in minimising any risk of social exploitation within the supply chain. We believe that this not only makes business sense, it also has the potential to improve the living and working standards of people around the world. This policy clarifies the expectation that our staff and suppliers must have a respect for our ethical standards in the context of their own particular culture and that relationships with our suppliers are based on the principle of fair and honest dealings at all times. The same principle of fair and honest dealings must be extended to all others with whom our suppliers do business, including employees, sub-contractors and other third parties and their local communities.
Ajar Technology’s ethical supply chain policy requires that the ethical issues and social responsibility within supply chains are understood and addressed when managing business to business supplier relationships and through the purchasing of goods and services from our suppliers.
Equal opportunity

Equal opportunity

Ajar Technology believes the skills, capabilities and talents of its employees are the key to its success. The Company benefits enormously from the diversity and variety of its workforce and is fully committed to maintaining and encouraging this diversity. The richer mix of people,
skills and cultures - the greater the range of inputs, viewpoints and experiences. Because of this, Ajar Technology UK is fully committed to being an equal opportunities employer, defined by its diversity and opposition to all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.
Equality of opportunity refers to the fair treatment of individuals at work and employment decisions being made on relevant, objective criteria. The Company will not discriminate on the grounds of gender, race, disability, sexuality, religion, philosophical belief, political belief, trade union membership or age. Diversity is about bringing together a rich mix of people with differing perspectives and from different backgrounds, and creating an environment in which those differences are valued.
Diversity improves competitiveness by enlarging the potential for ideas and innovation, one of Ajar Technology UK key principles. It is therefore a business imperative and part of the Company’s corporate and social responsibility.
